On May 29, 2014, The Department of Modern Languages and Business Communication organized the event "Endtimes? Crises and Turmoil at the New York Times" -- a lecture about major historical events at the New York Times offered by guest speaker Prof. Daniel R. Schwarz (Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences).
Dr. Schwarz is a Professor of English with a very active academic career and an author of numerous books on English and American literature, the Holocaust and media studies. In a lecture followed by an engaging conversation with both students and professors, we discussed about the past, present and future of the New York Times, as well as the future of the print media. The conclusion suggested by Prof. Schwarz in the well-known paraphrase from Winston Churchill --the New York Times is the "worst newspaper in the world except for all the others"-- remains food for thought for all present at the lecture.
