Roxana Marinescu

Dr. Roxana Marinescu is an Associate Professor with The Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania, where she teaches Intercultural Communication, Cultural Studies and Communication, Gender and Business in English and French to bachelor and master’s levels.

Dr. Marinescu has been involved in a number of national and international research projects in the areas of equal opportunities and gender awareness, democratic citizenship, life-long learning or education for the world of work and she has published several articles and books on the same issues. The latest project was Oportunidance. Dance Your Way to Other Cultures (2015-2017), which involved a transdisciplinary view on language learning, intercultural communication, social dance and digital competences for enhanced work-life balance.

She authored a number of books: Violated Bodies: A Cross-Cultural Reading by Writers of South-Asian Origin (2009), Northern Ireland. Border Country (2013), Salman Rushdie and Multiple Identities (2013), Intercultural Communication in Contemporary Society (2013). Among the books she co-authored are Crossing Cultures (1999), Rights in Deed (2002), Together/ Împreună (2007), Cultural Studies (2013 and 2017). Dr. Marinescu also wrote the chapter on Romania for Women’s Lives around the World. A Global Encyclopaedia published with ABC-Clio Greenwood Publishers and chapters in Anthropologie/y & Communication. Intersections (2016) and Learning Is Fun. Teaching Methodology for Plurilingual Education and a Balanced Life (2017).

Her latest publications include the articles Representing Gender in Communist and Postcommunist Romania (2017), in Academic Journal Diversité et Identité Culturelle en Europe/ Diversitate și identitate culturală în Europa; vol 14 (1)/2017, Surrogacy: from Commodification to Empowerment. Dr. Roxana Marinescu is editor-in- chief of academic journal Synergy (www.synergy.ase.ro) and has coordinated a special issue on Communism/Postcommunism. Perspectives on Gender of Academic Journal AnALize (www.analize-journal.ro).

Dr. Roxana Marinescu is a member of AnA Society for Feminist Analyses, an NGO with a vast experience in community development programmes and applied interdisciplinary research in women's issues.
